Valencia is an absolutely charming city on the east cost of Spain, Mediterranean to the core with plenty of good things to offer its visitors. It is said to be fun to get lost in this city when exploring the charming old streets and buildings. However, if you need to be somewhere in a hurry staying lost will not be enjoyable, only cause for irritation.

If you plan on renting a car in Valencia you need to be aware of the traffic laws and general road rules prevailing in Valencia. You also need to orient yourself with the place and it is well worth the time spent to do some research on this subject.

While Valencia has a very good public transport network of trains, buses, trams and taxis in place, car rentals Valencia are a popular mode of transport for people who visit. For the traveler who is constantly on the go, having your own transport is quite handy. Business travelers also like to hire a car at the airport to get them to where they are going.

Most of the international car rental companies have a presence at the Valencia airport; these companies include Avis, Hertz and Europcar. In Valencia you will also find local car rental companies which offer cheap rental prices; some of these companies include: Auriga Crown Car Hire, Sol Mar Rent a Car, Centauro Rent a Car among others.

When renting a car in Valencia there are some factors you need to consider:

- Make sure that you have Collision Damage Waiver or CDW insurance coverage; a relatively inexpensive cost will provide cover for the vehicle in the event of any damage to it. Failure to have this cover will result in you shelling out big bucks to cover the damage costs. It is important to note that the local companies offer fully inclusive CDW without any financial liability on the driver in the event of an accident; most multinational companies do not offer this service.

- Most rental agreements include unlimited mileage but you need to check this out to be sure; some agencies have a limited mileage clause, whereby you will have to pay for the excess kilometers driven.

- Car rental companies make it a practice to deliver the vehicle to you with a full tank of gas. Not all companies follow this practice, so you should verify the condition of the fuel tank at the time of taking the car.

- Check with the car rental agency about the time by which the vehicle has to be returned to them. Some companies charge a late fee if the time is not adhered to and this amount is equivalent to one day’s rental charge. You also need to inform the car rental company if there is an unforeseen delay in returning the car.
- To rent a car in Valencia you may have to provide your international driving license or European driving license as applicable. You will also be required to produce a valid credit card to confirm the booking. If you are unable to provide a valid credit card on the driver’s name some companies will refuse to rent you a car.

- Make sure you check with the company on road side assistance and payment in the event of a breakdown.

Before you get behind the wheel of your rented car make sure you know the road rules prevailing in Spain. Most of the rules are similar to those practiced across Europe. You would do well to note that Spain imposes very severe penalties for not following road rules.
